Colleen O’Hair and Julie Bessie purchased bicycles last year and began searching for fun, reflective accessories to add to them. They found some products but nothing that made them laugh while helping with visibility and safety. They began thinking and creating and invented Magnet Spotz, a removable, highly-reflective gizmo that sits on top of the helmet and helps riders to be seen by passing traffic.
“We wanted something that reflected the joy of bike riding. Something for those of us who ride for fun,” says O’Hair. “We’re hoping that having a fun accessory will encourage kids, young and old, to wear their helmets more often. And not just bike helmets.”
Magnet Spotz made its debut at Portland, Oregon’s own Pedalpalooza events and will be available in local bike shops, on the internet and at other retail outlets beginning summer 2006.
The first designs are a colorful flower, a jaunty pirate flag, a no cars symbol and bloodshot eyeballs.
